Repairs to both materials, such as welding or another appropriate solution.

Unmatched adhesion

The Nikasil is not on top of the metal, but is interwoven with it.

Modern mocking machines

One-Stop Shop

Ready-to-install return valve, with matching piston and springs if desired.

Here's how it works for you

From Worn to Ready for Installation in Four Steps

1

Request & Submission

Request a no-obligation quote. Then bring the cylinder by or mail it to us.

2

Inspection & Consultation

We’ll inspect the cylinder and discuss with you what needs to be done: repairs, sizing, and possibly a new piston.

3

Treatment

In our workshop, we remove the old coating, apply a new layer of Nikasil, and hone it to the exact specifications, within 0.005 mm.

4

Ready-to-install return

You will receive the cylinder fully finished and ready for installation, with a matching piston if desired. Pickup or delivery via PostNL.

The Process in Detail

How does the Nikasil coating process for a cylinder work?

Curious about exactly what happens to your cylinder? Every cylinder goes through the same careful steps at our facility.

01

Inspection & Consultation

Upon receipt, we inspect the cylinder for defects and damage. We’ll consult with you to determine whether and how to repair it: by welding or using another solution.

02

Ultrasonic Cleaning

The cylinder is cleaned of contaminants such as grease, mud, and oil in an ultrasonic bath.

03

Remove the old layer

After a second inspection, we remove the old wear layer: using electrolysis for chrome or nitric acid for Nikasil. The cylinder is always protected during this process to ensure that its appearance remains unaffected.

04

Cleaning, Repairing, Pre-honing

Clean it again and repair it if necessary. Then pre-honing: the cylinder becomes perfectly round and cylindrical, and the bore is perpendicular to the base, so that the coating is exactly the same thickness everywhere.

05

Calculate Layer Thickness

Based on the final dimensions and the piston that will be installed, we calculate the exact coating thickness.

06

Applying Nikasil

The cylinder passes through several baths containing specific liquids. The Nikasil deposits on the inner surface and bonds with the metal.

07

Tempering & Custom Honing

The cylinder cools down and acclimates. We then hone it in stages to the desired size, within 0.005 mm, using state-of-the-art honing machines.

08

Finishing

Deburring ports (2-stroke) and, upon request, grinding down the center pin of a bridged exhaust port to prevent seizing. Ready for installation!

What Makes This Treatment Unique

Not on top of it, but woven into it

The adhesion of our Nikasil coating remains unmatched to this day. Nikasil forms a bond with the underlying metal: it does not simply sit on top of it or stick to it, but is interwoven with it.

The result: a wear-resistant tread that will last for years under heavy use.

Attention to detail

Chiseled-down gates and a ground-down center post

After honing, we deburr all the ports on 2-stroke cylinders. Does your cylinder have a bridged exhaust port? If so, upon request, we’ll grind back the center stud so that the piston (springs) don’t rub against it.

Preliminary machining or tuning of the cylinder is also possible upon consultation.

Can you also spray the cylinders after the Nikasil treatment?

Yes, upon consultation.

Yes, a lot is possible if we discuss it.

Yes, this is usually possible, provided the material allows it.

No, unfortunately not. The entire layer would have to be replaced.

Yes, that’s possible. We carry brands such as VHM, Wössner, Meteor, Mahle, Wiseco, and Barikit, among others.

Yes. It will be returned to you ready for installation via PostNL: standard (€10), registered (€13.50), or insured (€19.50), up to 10 kg and excluding VAT.

Assembly and Break-in Recommendations After Nikasil Coating

You will receive the reconditioned cylinder—with a piston, if desired—returned ready for installation. To ensure a long service life, we recommend the following. Installation: Apply a generous amount of two-stroke oil to the piston and the cylinder wall, and tighten all parts with a torque wrench to the correct number of newton-meters as specified by the manufacturer. If this value is unknown, please feel free to contact us. First start: Use a slightly richer mixture than standard (at least 1:40) and a sufficiently large main jet, so that the gasoline/air mixture provides adequate cooling and lubrication. Let the engine warm up at idle until it reaches approximately 75–80 °C, turn it off, and let it cool down completely. Repeat this once more. Break-in: Drive the first 400–500 km carefully and avoid high RPMs. Then gradually increase the RPM so that all components can run in properly.
